Data Sources

All exchange rates are fetched directly from each bank's official website or API endpoint. We link to the source on each bank page so you can verify. We do not interpolate, estimate, or derive rates.

Fetch Schedule

Our fetcher runs at 09:45 and 14:15 Sri Lanka Standard Time (UTC+5:30) via GitHub Actions. Sri Lankan banks typically update their published rates around 09:30 and occasionally revise them in the afternoon.

Validation

If a fetched rate differs more than 5% from the previous rate for the same bank and currency, we treat it as a potential scraping error and revert to the previous value, marking it as "stale". The anomaly is logged.

If a bank's website is unreachable, we keep the last known rate and display a "stale" badge in the UI.

TT vs Cash Rates

TT (Telegraphic Transfer) rate: applies to international wire transfers (SWIFT). Typically the better rate for remittances.

Cash rate: applies when physically exchanging banknotes at a branch. Usually 0.5–2% worse than TT due to handling and transport costs.

We display TT by default (most relevant for remittances) with a toggle to switch to cash.

CBSL Reference Rate

We also fetch the Central Bank of Sri Lanka's indicative exchange rate from cbsl.gov.lk. This is a mid-rate reference; actual bank rates will differ.
